Joe Cole thinks England can win World Cup

West Ham United player and former England midfielder Joe Cole believes that his country are genuine contenders to win the title next summer and he believes the Three Lions can definitely win the tournament.

According to the former Liverpool player, England has a team that really excites him and this team can lead the country to glory after almost sixty years since their first and so far, only triumph. The 31 year old has 56 caps to his name and has also admitted that he still hasn’t given up hope of breaking into Roy Hodgson’s side for next summer’s tournament.

Speaking to BBC, Cole stated that he thinks England can go there and win the tournament. He also added that he believes the coach will try and play things down and that is the right thing to do but he added that there are players in the team that are very exciting and he thinks they have a fighting chance of reclaiming the trophy.

Joe Cole, who also had stints are Chelsea and French side Lille, played in the last three editions of the World Cup and was a part of the so-called golden generation of English football, which included the likes of Chelsea player Frank Lampard and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as well as the Manchester nited pair of Paul Scholes and David Beckham.

But none of those teams managed to go beyond the quarter finals stages. However, Joe Cole is adamant the team they have now is good enough and also singled out Tottenham Hotspur youngster Andros Townsend for special praise for his performances after his recent debut with England. He thinks the emergence of the likes of the Spurs man along with Ravel Morrison, Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling also gives England hope for a very bright future indeed.
