NEWCASTLE UNITED WANTS COLE

Newcastle United is planning to move for Joe Cole from Liverpool FC. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has £35million to spend following the deadline day sale of striker Andy Carroll to Liverpool last month and although a striker is a priority this summer, Pardew is looking to strengthen other areas of his squad once the transfer window re-opens.

Joe Cole, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer, has not made the impression at Anfield that he and others were hoping for, and while injuries have played their part, the former West Ham player has not been playing well when he has been used over the past six months.

Cole was linked with a return to West Ham during the transfer window but with Liverpool's squad lacking depth, a loan move was not one that the Merseysiders were open to.But a summer move could be on the cards and according to Caughtoffside.com, Cole could be offloaded for as little as £5million, although new assistant manager Steve Clarke is reportedly keen for the midfielder to stay at the club.
