COLE WANTS CHELSEA STAR BENCHED

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has called on Frank Lampard to drop Timo Werner from his starting XI as the German international continued to struggle in front of goal. Joe Cole and Frank Lampard were Chelsea teammates for several years and he believes that the Chelsea manager would be better served leaving Timo Werner out of his team. Timo Werner has come in for a lot of criticisms after his recent struggles to score for the team he joined in the summer. Chelsea paid £52m to secure his transfer from fellow Champions League campaigners RB Leipzig. Chelsea and RB Leipzig are both in the round of 16 of the competition and tough games await them potentially in this round. Chelsea have been drawn with Spanish La Liga table toppers Atletico Madrid, while RB Leipzig have been drawn with Premier League champions Liverpool.

Joe Cole spoke to Amazon Prime last week shortly after the disappointing 2-1 loss to Wolves in a week 13 league match. According to him, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard needs to freshen up his team and thatTimo Werner could be the man to drop out due to his poor finishing in front of goal in recent games. Joe Cole believes that Werner needs to work more on his finishing.
Chelsea took the lead in the Wolves game through Olivier Giroud at the start of the second half only for the Blues to bepegged back later in the half through Daniel Pondence. Wolves won the game through young Portuguese star Pedro Neto with virtually the last kick of the game to give his team the three points on offer at the expense of Chelsea.

The Wolves game was the penultimate league match for Chelsea. In their last league game, Frank Lampard didn’t heed the suggestion of Joe Cole as he retained Werner in his starting XI for the 3-0 home win over London rivals West Ham United. Timo Werner provided an assist during the game.
