Joe Cole believes that Duncan Ferguson will take the Everton managerial job on a permanent basis if he’s offered. The 50-year-old was not keen on taking the job when he was the caretaker manager for some games two seasons ago before the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti. Duncan Ferguson has been a part of the coaching staff at Everton for several years on the back of enjoying a good Premier League career at the club.

Everton are looking for a permanent manager after the dismissal of Rafael Benitez earlier this week. The former Real Madrid and Newcastle United boss was sacked after a poor league run of one win in 13 games. The poor run has left Everton in a relegation battle at the moment as they are five points above third from bottom on the log ahead of their home game against Aston Villa.

The managerial appointment of Benitez was not welcomed with open hands by the Everton fans due to his Liverpool affiliation. He started the season well before results went downhill for three months before his dismissal this week.

Since the sacking of Benitez, a lot of names have been linked with the manager’s job. Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has been linked with the job as the former Everton striker has been doing a wonderful job with the Rams in the English Championship. Apart from Rooney, the likes of Belgian national team manager and former Everton boss Roberto Martinez, Fabio Cannavaro and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard have been linked with the managerial job at Goodison Park.
