Former Chelsea forward Joe Cole insists that Alvaro Morata will be a big hit at Stamford Bridge following his switch from Real Madrid earlier this summer.
The Spain international became the Blues’ fourth signing of the transfer window after he put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Premier League champions.
The 24-year-old was initially linked with a potential move to Manchester United, but the Blues eventually pursued his services after they agreed on a club-record deal with the European champions. With the Blues back in the Champions League, Morata will have the task of leading the line for the west London giants as they look to make progress across all four competitions.
In an interview on Chelsea’s official website, Cole was full of praise for the new signing citing that he will prove a brilliant addition to Antonio Conte’s squad, he said: “He’s obviously one of the best in the world. He impresses me every time he plays. People keep saying he’s an old-fashioned English centre-forward, but I don’t remember too many of them with the skill, power, pace and technical ability of Morata.”
Morata had a poor start to his Blues career as he missed a key penalty in the shootout loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield. He has since notched his debut goal in the surprise 3-2 league defeat against Burnley whilst failing to show up in his first Blues’ start at Tottenham Hotspur.
The two-time Champions League winner has shown brilliant movement behind defenders in his short period at Chelsea, but he may have to work out on his finishing after he missed an easy chance to put his side ahead at Wembley last weekend. Nevertheless, the Blues clinched a 2-1 triumph over city rivals Spurs with Marcos Alonso scoring an impressive brace from left wing-back.
